RHODIUM PLATED JEWELLERY

What is Rhodium Plated Jewellery?

Rhodium is a precious metal that is in the family of platinum. Rhodium plated jewellery involves plating the jewellery with a surface that guards against scratches that also gives a reflective white appearance. It is most commonly found on white gold jewelry but can also be used on silver and other materials and it doesn't tarnish.

What are the benefits?

There are many upsides to rhodium plated jewellery. It increases shine, luster and durability. Additionally, it will make your jewellery more resistant to scratches and if it's silver, less prone to tarnishing.

Another popular benefit to rhodium plating is the fact that it makes your jewelry hypoallergenic. This is because it's nickel-free. So if you have a nickel allergy, rhodium plating is a good option for you.

What is the difference between Sterling silver and Rhodium Plated Jewellery?

Sterling silver is 92.5% silver with 7.5% copper added. Rhodium plated silver is fine or sterling silver that is polished and dipped in rhodium.

How do you care for and clean rhodium plated jewellery?

Clean rhodium plated silver with warm water and a mild liquid soap (such as ivory dishwashing soap). Rinse and dry with a soft polishing cloth immediately to avoid mineral residue from the water. Never use harsh chemicals on rhodium-plated jewelry as the chemicals will damage the plating. In addition, do not use jewelry-cleaning chemicals or sonic-cleaning systems.  Frequent contact with water may also expedite the demise of a rhodium coat. Therefore you should remove rhodium-plated jewelry before washing your hands, showering, or swimming.
